Masterminds and why they are NOT just a group coaching program

Written by Brad Hart on Dec. 27th 2019

You might be asking yourself, as many others ask me:

“Brad, a mastermind is just a fancy group coaching program. What’s the difference between running a mastermind and just coaching a group?”

Well, I’m here to help you make that distinction for yourself and the people who you serve.

Because as their servant leader, they ultimately rely on you for your leadership.

It’s an important distinction to make because although coaching is an incredible way to make an impact, masterminding is decidedly NOT coaching.

An average coach is trained to help you gain clarity and push you toward the results you want.

Many coaches are not trained at all, and get inconsistent results when dealing with clients as a result.

The best coaches are not only trained to ‘pull’ the best out of people and get them to make progress based on their own vision, but ‘walk the walk’: they invest in themselves and are consistently attending to their growth with personal and professional development programs, books, podcasts, events and training programs.

If I had a dollar for every time I met a “coach” who had zero qualifications to do that job, I would be a much richer man indeed.

And the biggest problem with the coaching industry in general is there are so few barriers to entry that anyone who decides they don’t like their job can hang out their shingle as a coach and get to work stalling at best and destroying people’s lives at worst with their ignorance.

Their clients not only don’t get the results they were sold on, but they become disillusioned with the entire coaching industry as a result and begin to mistrust everything they need most to transform.

But let’s assume that if you’re reading this, that’s not you.

You are a great coach, leader, speaker, facilitator or any of the above, as you are the person who should be considering starting and leading a mastermind, and ultimately, if I’ve done my job marketing this book correctly, you are the one reading this.

I could add to that that after being a member of 26 masterminds and starting 8 of my own, all over the world, that I have a much better understanding of what works and what doesn't.

The key distinction is not to push, not to even pull, but to lead the group in a process that works.

To facilitate their transformation by getting them in the room, and having them stick to the program.

Your particular skill set is less relevant, and as long as you stick to the program, you can’t fail.

It’s 99% effective when you just follow the steps and check the boxes.

Just like AA, it works if you work it.

And as you see people transform before your eyes, crush challenge after challenge and make incredible progress toward their goals, you’ll begin to rely on the process more and more even when people struggle a bit in the interim.

When you can get out of your own way and just trust the process, magic happens.

I’m here to teach you to the process.

It will create transformational benefits not only for the people you serve, but for your business as well.
